This was a surprise to see these guys, and they seemed to enjoy the photography attention. Something different and this was really fun to shoot.

LAXHair Day
Always a great LAX hair day when shooting the girls game. Spent Saturday at St. Stephens and St. Agnes high school in Alexandria VA to help cover and photograph the 27th annual Spring Fling for Inside Lacrosse magazine. Great opportunity to shoot some of the best teams in the county and my 5th time at this event, one event I look forward to each spring.

Rocks and Arches - National Park Weekend
Just spent the weekend in Moab and visiting the Arches and Cayonlands National Parks. I would have never thought photographing rocks would have been so interesting and creative. Up early to catch the sunrise and trying to be be the first photog waiting in the cold and dark. Here are a few of my favorites.

It was good to catch the last game of the season with some freshman basketball last evening. Onto the official start of the spring season and lacrosse games.

From Rockville MD to PyeongChang
Congratulations to Haley Skarupa on her section to the USA Hockey team and her Olympic dream. Here is a photo from her high school playing days with the Washington Pride. Too bad the WAPO got the photo credit wrong.

Throw back Monday
Too bad for the Minnesota Vikings to come up short in their bid to make the Super Bowl in their home town. Congratulations on MD local Stefon Diggs, here is a photograph from his high schools playing days at Good Counsel.

Just like shooting a football game..kind of
I was asked to join a friend to photograph the eagles that
meet along the Susquehanna river this time each year. Why not, something I have never done before
and always in for trying to capture something new. Having never photographed birds in flight, I
thought I would approach like a football game.
Fast shutter speed and not really knowing the next play.
Must have been 100+ other photogs with the same idea. I was definitely not prepared and not the
right gear. Some of the other photographers
were serious about their nature photography and it showed with their gear. My monopod set-up worked OK, and had to make
the best with what I have (I guess the best set-up is a Gimbal mount for the
long lens).
For the most part the eagles were not active this day but I was able
to get a few. Looking forward to going
again next year.

New PowerPlay Photography Site v2.0
I just finished the new PowerPlay Photography site upgrade. The old site was based on Shutterfly Pro and after 10 years it was time for an upgrade (since Shutterfly canceled their Pro service program). Still needs a few fine tuning, but it is up and working.

The St Stephens and St Agnes High School annual Spring Flight lacrosse tournament brings the best girls teams from around the country each April. This tournament has become a regular for my spring schedule and I look forward to the event each year. Below are a few samples from my day in Alexandria at SSSAS.

Heartbreaker in College Pak
Saturday in College Park was by far
the most entertaining lacrosse game in sometime. # 6 Maryland was
down big most of the game and charged back to tie with 26 seconds remaining
only to lose in OT. It was great to see
the joy from the Nova bench. Complete game recap from Inside Lacrosse posted here.

First Game of the New Season
Trying out a new game-day set-up with a Pelican hard case. This case is smaller than my rolling bag set-up but also allows the storage of my 300 2.8 lens. A few sample from the Georgetown vs Towson game today.
New Camera, First game with 1DX Mk II
First tryout of new gear and the Canon 1DX Mark II. Still getting the feel for all the new features and this camera is amazing. Way fast and I could have pushed the ISO even more for this old St Albans gym. A few samples below.

Sometimes a Mess Up Works Out
Sure was not paying attention and I must have bumped my camera settings and now I am shooting at 1/90 sec, f/8 for half the game. A few made for an interesting effect, somewhat a salvage.
Here are a few of the non 1/90 sec favorites.
