JWHL Challenge Cup - Day 1

This is my third year as the official photographer for the JWHL Challenge Cup.   This tournament brings together the best in girls prep hockey from North America.   This tournament is considered the premier event for girls hockey with teams from LA, New York, Boston, Colorado, Vermont, and all across Canada.   The games are played at the Washington Capitals Kettler Iceplex in Arlington VA which is an excellent arena and a great place to shoot hockey.   My thanks to Kush from the Washington Pride to include me in this tournament.  He runs a class organization and teaches his young women what it takes to compete at this level with great sportsmanship and excellent hockey fundamentals.  The rest of the photos will be posted to my PowerPlay Photography site.  

DC Winter Wonderland

This weekend the DC area got blasted with another snowstorm, and my town got over 25. No one was moving anywhere, and not even my Jeep could get out of the neighborhood. . The winter snow birds did not seem to mind the snow. These all were shot in my back yard…trying to make the best of cabin fever for 3 days.

St. Thomas Wedding

I was able to shoot the wedding of our friends Jon and Shawn while on the August Schell President’s Club trip to St Thomas. What a great background to shoot a wedding with all the blue sky and water. This was my first try at a wedding and although it was a small ceremony, I had a great time and liked the results.

58 Days and counting..

The official lacrosse season starts in less than 58 days and on the newsstands this week is the Inside Lacrosse Yearbook. Yours truly has several game photos featured including several of the Under Armor All American games I shot for IL last July.

Also, IL featured one of my shots from the Georgetown vs. Rutgers game last season as the main photo for the Big East Conference section. Glad to see my photo used, but really…Rutgers as the main highlight for the new Big East Lacrosse Conference? I guess you can only use Syracuse so many times.

So Long Jim, We Hardly Knew You

My two teams name both have new head coaches with the Redskins announcing Mike Shanahan as the new head coach and Notre Dame announcing Brian Kelly. Exciting times for both teams and I am looking forward to how each builds it staff and team strategy for next year. Both Notre Dame and the Redskins have similar issue with what to do at quarterback, how to assemble a coaching staff , re-building the offensive lines and the pressure to coach in DC and South Bend.

I had the opportunity to shoot a Redskins game and the ND vs BC game in South Bend this year.

Basketball Remote

Just finished shooting the National Jesuit Christmas Classic hosted by Georgetown Prep in Bethesda MD. This was my second year as the official photographer and I really enjoyed all the games. I tried something new this year with a camera remote mounted behind the backboard. This was my first remote and I learned a lot for the next time. ESPN The Shot Photo Contest

I entered a few photographs in the ESPN photography contest and to my surprise ESPN has used one of my entries on the main ESPN contest web site. It looks like ESPN will announce the winners any day.
