Spring Must Be Around The Corner

First game of the season and 19 degrees at game time.   Early morning and a travel date to Charlottesville VA for the opening game of the season with a top 10 match-up of UVA vs. Loyola Maryland.   Not much of a game and I think I feel like the UVA team, took a little while to get back in the shooting groove. Great to be on the sidelines and thanks for Inside Lacrosse for the game slot.   

Bad Light - Good Light

My day started in College Park with UNC vs. Maryland at noon and then to Baltimore to catch the second game of the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic with UVA vs. JHU. The MD-UNC game was at noon and I was struggling with finding the right settings and the right position on the field. The second game in Baltimore was much better with the later afternoon sun allowing for some great shots.

Championship Monday

Congratulations to the University of Virginia lacrosse team for winning D-1 National Championship. UVA are now 5-4 in NCAA Tournament championship games, and is this fourth for Cavalier head coach Dom Starsia. Thanks to a game strategy that worked well against the Terrapins, the game was very low-scoring and the first quarter was the lowest scoring first quarter in NCAA Division I Championship game history.

I had trouble finding a rhythm to the game in the first half, the but second half worked better for me. Overall I was happy with the game photos and here are a few samples from the game.

The #8 UNC Tar Heels won at College Park for the first time since 2003 and improved to 7-2 with a nice come from behind win over the Terps at College Park.   The vocal crowd of 3,176 fans and a national television audience on ESPN made for a big game feel for an early season game.  The field at Byrd stadium is curved and makes for some careful planning on where you shoot.  It really cuts the available filed with my 300mm lens to about a quarter of most fields.   Must be because Byrd is a football first field.  

#1 vs #3 Early Season Lacrosse

Good to see a full house at the University of Maryland FH-LAX Complex to see #1 Maryland and defending National Champion vs.#3 Duke.  Nice light and great weather for a February lacrosse game. Read more from the game at Inside Lacrosse.
