Cover, Inside Cover

You ever wonder why a photo editor picks one vs the other?  Sometimes my favorites are never the final selected and other times we are one the same page.  Mini cover shot on the upcoming IL 2014 Yearbook with one of my images from the NCAA's at Lucas Oil Stadium Indianapolis. Was this basic photo selected because of the clear Duke name on the jersey or the clean background (for easy removal)? 

Mud, Fire, Beer, Photo Fun

What a great way to spend a fall Saturday morning, this was my second time to shoot the Rugged Maniac (High Point Farm in Clarksburg MD).  Shot the mud pit section of the run, the early runners had it easy, and by the afternoon the mud pit was a foot of sloppy, thick muck.  See more of the photos here.   

Thank You To Our Military Veterans

On this Veterans Day I wanted to thank the men and women who have served in our country’s military, and who fought to defend the freedoms we all enjoy today. I grew up on Army bases all over the world as my Dad served our country 25 years so this is a special day to say thanks for your service and sacrifice.

Fall Ball at the USNA

Great day in Annapolis on Saturday as the USNA hosted 20 women’s D-1 college lacrosse programs for a day of fall pre-season games.  Add the annual Annapolis boat show and the Navy college regatta and you had a very busy Naval Academy.  You may think you are prepared for a day of shooting and then your back-up battery and back-up camera all are acting up.   A few trips back to the car and finally get up and running, still in time to shoot 6 games avert eh afternoon.   See more game photos here; 

       

NCAA Indy

Quick flight from BWI to Indy to shoot the NCAA quarter-finals at Lucas Oil Stadium.   Southwest should have labeled the flight the LAX Flight, almost all on-board were going to Indy to for the NCAA's. Great trip and overall was happy with the game photos.   What a great stadium and the NCAA staff were all very helpful.  Guess it helps since the NCAA Hq is about 2 blocks from the stadium.   Here are a few from each game.   

May Madness Playoff Time

Lacrosse NCAA playoff time and the brackets just announced. Looking forward to the next few weeks.   Also, the May issue of Inside Lacrosse was just released and I have a few photos featured, including the cover (well 1/2 a cover..). Coincidence with Cornell and Maryland on the cover and this is the first round match-up.

Great crowd at College Park (10,223) to see the Blue Jays 7-4 victory over the top-ranked Maryland Terrapins. This was the 1,000th lacrosse game for the University of Maryland and the game had a playoff atmosphere at Byrd Stadium.  See more of my game photos here.   Mike Bahniuk, Washington DC sports photographer.
